Had such a cool assignment the other day to shoot the final projects of an urban studies course. The alumni magazine at Penn is doing a feature on Professor Andrew Lamas and his unique teaching methods. He had the students in his "Community Economic Development" urban studies course create boxes inspired by the sculptor Joseph Cornell. He took them on a field trip to DC to see the largest private collection of Cornell boxes and had them meet the 80 year old Howard Hussey, who was an assistant to Cornell.
For this final class, Lamas invited two art professors from Moore College of Art to critique the work. He had the students all grab big tables from their classroom when it was too hot and move them out to the study area in the main part of the building. He spread tablecloths on the floor and asked everyone to sit down and pretend it was 1968. He was everything a teacher should be: he engaged the students 100%. I have a little bit of a crush.
I also had a moment of sinking realization when the students arrived and I had to finally admit that my daughter is closer in age to them than I am. :-)
I will share some more photos after the final shots are selected!

Wow. Nice.
